Taking the restaurant’s name in the most literal sense, Ramen House utilizes the simple geometry of the ‘house’, as its main design feature. This simple form takes half of the shopfront and extrudes itself to artfully conceal the restaurant’s back of house kitchen and main storage area.A modern art mural delicately separates the sidewall’s raw structure from its diners, as traces of this are somewhat visible above eyelevel. Mirror panels at the back create the illusion of the mural’s never-ending, free-flow form. The dining area’s main source of light is achieved through the re-form of upside down Ramen bowls, again playfully evoking the restaurant’s name. The overall ceiling height is discreetly made unknown by blacking out the restaurant’s services and piping.
